It has been a little while since I moved to Bournemouth and settled into my university halls, since my last post I have been introduced to my first few lectures for my final law units.
After 4 years of embracing the nightlife that ‘Freshers Week’ brings, I have reached my limit and have not been out sipping on Cubans and dong Sambuca shots till 3am in the morning. Instead I have been prepping myself for my final year of study and getting to grips with my new location to see how long I can sleep in before I have to go to class … I know my priorities.
As I have transferred universities, I have had to sit in on some first year introduction classes to see who’s who within the faculty etc. I have also been introduced to our Law society and Mooting Society on campus which I have signed up for and I believe we are given our first moot case very soon! The campus is truly stunning, most of my lectures are held in the new Fusion Building which has incredible classrooms and lecture halls which make you feel as though you want to study, it is a great environment to be in (I hope you can see what I mean through the pictures).
Freshers Fair was a big highlight of the week, it is basically the biggest event during Fresher’s due to it offering the opportunity to sign up to as many sports clubs and societies as you like to feel like you are a part of Bournemouth University! Enhancing this experience was the DJ in the middle of campus along with different businesses handing out free things, including Domino’s pizza, which if you don’t know, is a students’ Savior. I think the weirdest society I saw at freshers was the Disney club….or was it the Harry Potter society…It is tricky to choose. I probably signed up to about eight or nine different clubs and societies whilst here, but will most likely end up doing about two!
The day after fresher’s fair, I thought it would be a great idea to try women’s football, if you want to know how that went for me, its day two post try outs and all of my muscles are still in complete shock from the exercise. To top that off, our residence hall elevator has stopped working and I am on the seventh floor. Yay for me.
This week, today in fact, I have started real lectures and I am already missing the bliss of summer. Luckily the subjects for this final year are not too bad, this semester focuses on Law of International Trade, Media & Entertainment law and Employment law. The lecturers I have met so far seem very interesting people to learn from and make the lecture fun and interactive for all which I personally find is the best way to learn.
We have all received our reading lists for these mentioned topics and I am currently in the process of waving goodbye to my precious student loan as I splash out on core textbooks. Our first essay was also handed to us today and is a subject I have no clue on, the Bill of Lading and is thankfully not due until after reading week in November.
At least I have something good to occupy my weekends instead of binge watching Netflix, let the reading commence!
